8 tips to increase the battery life of your Android phone

Several factors contribute to the decrease in battery life on your Android phone. Thinner bodies, brighter screens, faster processors, more platform software, and faster internet connections all come at a cost to your phone’s battery; that’s why battery cases and portable batteries come at a cost that has become popular.

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Google added the Doze feature, which puts the phone to sleep when sitting on a table except for urgent notifications (like text messages) and occasional syncing. This battery optimization is meant to boost your phone automatically, but you can do a few other things to improve battery life.

Since this is Android, the options for enabling these services will vary by handset, but a quick search in the settings will bring them up.

Turn on power-saving mode.

Features like Bluetooth, NFC, Samsung phone visibility, and location services are useful but drain the battery when your phone pings to connect and update. If you’re looking to preserve juices, turn them off until you need them.

Similarly, you can also choose to turn off automatic updates inside apps. Perhaps your Instagram app will automatically refresh with new content as it becomes available. That was great for keeping up with friends’ selfies and vacation stories, but now everyone is so tired! In your phone’s settings, you can turn off the option to automatically sync data and manually update those apps as you use them to save some battery life.

Meanwhile, keep an eye out for ad-supported apps that seem to be draining the battery. As BuzzFeed reported in March, ad scams can hijack in-app ads to run videos in the background. You won’t watch these videos, but they will register as advertiser broadcasts, meaning they’re tricked into paying when your battery reaches zero. So it’s a good idea to periodically check which apps are running waste your battery fastest to see if there are any outliers you can remove.
