amazon Asus VP28UQG reviews
The Asus VP28UQG is a solid choice for professional gamers and creators who like the Freesync technology and the short response speed you get with this panel.
The Asus VP28UQG is a 28-inch gaming monitor that uses AMD’s FreeSync anti-tearing technology and 1ms response time to deliver smooth gaming action. It uses a Twisted Nematic (TN) panel to deliver clear images, and while its viewing angles aren’t as wide as what you’ll find on competing IPS panels like the 27-inch LG 27UK850-W, it’s still good display details in live view.
In addition to supporting adaptive sync and a 60Hz refresh rate, it is equipped with three digital video inputs, VESA mount support, and a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m2. Its 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution provides very sharp high-resolution images, but its colors aren’t as accurate as those in our Editor’s Choice for large-screen gaming monitors, BenQ EL2870U at the same price, ideal for an all-round curved gaming monitor.
Design
The Asus VP28UQG lacks the sleek aesthetics of the Asus ROG Strix (XG27VQ) and Acer Predator X34 models but is still a great monitor. It comes in a black, 2.5-inch-thick case with thick (0.5-inch) bezels and a matte, anti-glare coating. On the back of the cabinet, there are four VESA mounting holes, and is supported by a round base and mounting arm that provides a 25-degree tilt.
All I/O ports of the VP28UQG are located on the back of the cabinet. Here you find two HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort input, and one headphone jack. While it’s nice to have three digital inputs, a few legacy ports like VGA and DVI ports are included on BenQ monitors, and even a single USB port would be nice. Again, it lacks built-in speakers, but for the price, it’s an acceptable shortcoming.
The right side of the cabinet is home to a 5-way rotary button that makes it easy to navigate the settings menus.
AMD FreeSync Technology
FreeSync technology is AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s G-Sync anti-tearing and smoothing technology. Except for the brand name, both adaptive sync technologies control the display’s refresh rate to eliminate screen tearing, an error that occurs when a monitor with a fixed refresh rate tries to match the refresh rate of the graphics card. As a result, tearing causes a split-screen effect when parts of two frames are displayed simultaneously.
Both of these adaptive sync technologies also reduce motion disruption and input lag (the time it takes for the display to respond to controller commands). The only difference is that while G-Sync monitors contain a proprietary module that allows the GPU to handle the refresh rate, FreeSync monitors use DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync, an existing industry-standard method for controlling the monitor’s refresh rate via DisplayPort 1.2 input.
Therefore, to take advantage of FreeSync, you will need a monitor that supports DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync, an AMD Radeon graphics card in your PC that supports FreeSync, and AMD’s Catalyst Control Center software and drivers.

Game Presets And Adjustments
Game visual settings include a GamePlus feature that includes customizable crosshairs, a screen timer, and an FPS counter. Another added feature is HDCP 2.2 support that allows you to stream content from Netflix, and Amazon Video, all in 4K UHD resolution.
You’ll also find eight pre-calibrated picture presets for most viewing situations including Landscape, Theater, Game, Night View, Reading, Darkroom, sRGB, and Standard Mode that you can customize.
Exceptional Features
When it comes to games, the VP28UQG is an excellent performer. It scores well for PC gaming in the Crysis tests, thanks to its 60Hz refresh rate and 1 millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response rate. The screen manages to provide very smooth motion handling with no noticeable ghosting or blurring. It offers the same clarity as Grand Theft Auto V on the Sony PlayStation 4. The colors are rich and the detail is outstanding.
Despite its rich colors, the VP28UQG’s color accuracy fell slightly on the color tests, with the reds and greens falling short of their ideal target and the blues being decent at the edges. Fortunately, the result is a screen that doesn’t look washed out or oversaturated. The IPS panel has no trouble displaying any grayscale, loss of brightness, or color shifting when viewed from extreme angles.
Even with impressive test scores, it still benefits from AMD’s Freesync technology. Even with adaptive sync turned off, screen tearing wasn’t an issue on Crysis 3 and Call of Duty: Black OP, but fast action scenes looked much smoother and sharper with G-Sync enabled.
The Asus VP28UQG monitor has an input lag of 27.4 milliseconds, which is fine and won’t affect your gameplay. However, it doesn’t match the short 9.7-millisecond latency of the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540. The display consumed 36 watts of power in the test when set to sRGB mode. That’s in line with most competitors in the 38-watt range, but with ECO mode enabled it can drop to around 29 watts.
Identify
The Asus VP28UQG is a solid choice for professional gamers and creators who like the Freesync technology and the short response speed you get with this panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 for crisp detailed images and a very smooth gaming experience, and the connectivity options are optimal. Color accuracy has a slight drop, but not to the point where the image appears oversaturated.
If color accuracy and viewing angles are deal-breakers, check out our editorial pick of the BenQ EL2870U. It offers the 4K resolution you get with the Asus VP28UQG but is maxed out with true colors and wider viewing angles, and it also uses FreeSync technology.
