amazon D-Link DCS-8000LH reviews
This brand new D-Link wireless surveillance camera allows users to easily view the apartment or office remotely via the mydlink Lite application on a mobile phone or tablet.
At first glance, make sure you also look like me when mistakenly thinking of the D-Link Mini HD Wi-Fi. The DCS-8000LH is a kid’s toy with a cylindrical shape of compact size (9, 2cm, diameter: 3.5cm) and very light weight (57.7gm).
The D-Link Omna 180 Cam HD, which was introduced shortly thereafter, only supports Wi-Fi connectivity, and for many users, the D-Link Omnia 180 Cam HD is a “minus point”, but it is fair to say that with the universality and convenience of wireless networks in all offices, apartments you can completely ignore this “small” criteria.
The D-Link DCS-8000LH has a simple design, using only white tones. The front of the DCS-8000LH is a f / 2.4 aperture focal-length lens with CMOS sensor, support for 720p HD video recording (30 frames per second), wide viewing angle up to 120 degrees, and remarkable. Most important is the ability to shoot night vision efficiently with the help of a specialized infrared LED – precisely that the infrared LED is mounted independently of the main lenses.
According to the manufacturer’s announcement, the infrared light has a range of 5 meters, and is capable of automatically activating when ambient light conditions change.
Below the camera cluster is the light sensor, and finally the status light of the D-Link DCS-8000LH.
Meanwhile, the power jack through the charging adapter is hid at the back, and at the bottom of the device is a hole that activates the hard reset feature.
At the edge / bottom of the DCS-8000LH, you will also see the device’s corresponding parameter tag, mydlink code and the QR code to use when necessary, such as when installing equipment that you previously Loss of technical documentation (paper sheets).
D-Link DCS-8000LH is designed to fit in any modern space, on the shelf, desk, TV cabinet or bar. As long as the area has the presence of an AC power supply.

Easy configuration
The DCS-8000LH is easy to install with the intuitive technical documentation.
Specifically, you first download and install the mydlink Lite (free) app for smartphones or tablets from the App Store or Google Play.
Then power the DCS-8000LH and launch myDlink Lite on the mobile device.
Perform the tutorial, and after about 5 minutes you can finish and the DCS-8000LH is ready to “work” to see the space you have previously set.
Note that you need to create a mydlink account, or use my previous shared mydlink account to conveniently centrally manage devices on the mydlink cloud service.
During the installation process, it will be required to open the Bluetooth feature on the smartphone or tablet, as this is the original and mandatory connection channel between the mobile device and the D-Link DCS-8000LH.
Basically, there are two ways to identify the D-Link DCS-8000LH, which is to perform a QR Code scan, or manually scan the listed list. In the second, you need to enter the corresponding mydlink code of the camera you are using.
After the installation is completed, from the mydlink Lite main interface, you will see all the devices being managed through the mydlink cloud, and of course the DCS-8000LH camera, installation is complete.
At this point, just click on the camera name – for example, DCS-8000LH, then the console will immediately – monitor the camera will appear.
From this management screen, you can perform real-time viewing with good video and audio quality, take snapshot or record video to The work of archiving or creating evidence. The Lab test found that photos and videos are saved directly to the memory (or memory card) of your phone or tablet running mydlink Lite.
If you want, you can take advantage of the advanced features on the DCS-8000LH such as Sound Detection and Motion Detection via the Settings menu.
Noticeably, you can dynamically set up a specific “identification” for the observation space as well as the pitch of the sound intensity (in dB) to activate the alert feature. When DCS-8000LH detects motion in the grids or sounds around the camera, it immediately sends a warning message to the mydlink Lite, or to the mobile device itself of the user.
Performance and Video Quality
Resolution and Image Sensor
The DCS-8000LH features a 720p HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), which provides clear and detailed video footage. While not as high-resolution as some of the newer 1080p or 4K models, the 720p resolution is sufficient for general monitoring and security purposes. The camera’s image sensor captures decent-quality video with adequate detail for most residential and small office applications.
Field of View
The DCS-8000LH offers a wide 120-degree field of view, which allows it to cover a broad area with a single camera. This wide-angle lens is effective for monitoring large rooms or open spaces, reducing the need for multiple cameras to cover a single area. The wide field of view also helps minimize blind spots and ensures that more of the monitoring area is captured.
Low-Light Performance
The camera is equipped with infrared (IR) LEDs that provide night vision capabilities. These IR LEDs allow the DCS-8000LH to capture clear video in low-light or complete darkness, with a night vision range of up to 5 meters (16.4 feet). While the night vision performance is not as advanced as some high-end models, it is sufficient for basic nighttime surveillance and monitoring.
Video Quality and Compression
The DCS-8000LH uses H.264 video compression technology, which efficiently reduces the file size of recorded video while maintaining good image quality. This compression method helps optimize storage and bandwidth usage, making it easier to manage video files and stream footage over the internet.
Features and Functionality
Motion Detection
One of the key features of the DCS-8000LH is its motion detection capability. The camera can detect movement within its field of view and trigger notifications or recording actions based on these detections. Users can customize the motion detection settings, including sensitivity levels and detection zones, to minimize false alarms and focus on areas of interest.
Two-Way Audio
The DCS-8000LH includes a built-in microphone and speaker, enabling two-way audio communication. This feature allows users to listen to and speak with individuals within the camera’s field of view through the D-Link mobile app or web interface. Two-way audio is useful for interacting with visitors, pets, or family members, and it adds an additional layer of functionality to the security camera.
Cloud Storage and Local Recording
The camera supports cloud storage options through D-Link’s mydlink service, allowing users to store video recordings remotely. This feature provides an additional layer of security, as recorded footage is stored off-site and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. The DCS-8000LH also supports local recording to a microSD card (up to 128GB), providing a backup option for storing footage directly on the camera.
Mobile App Integration
The DCS-8000LH is compatible with the mydlink app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. The app provides a user-friendly interface for managing the camera, viewing live video feeds, and accessing recorded footage. Through the app, users can also configure settings, receive motion detection alerts, and communicate via the two-way audio feature.
Compatibility and Integration
The camera supports integration with various smart home ecosystems, including Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This compatibility allows users to control the camera and view live feeds using voice commands or through compatible smart home hubs. The DCS-8000LH also integrates with IFTTT (If This Then That), enabling users to create custom automation rules and workflows based on camera events.
Installation and Setup
Ease of Installation
The DCS-8000LH is designed for easy installation, with a straightforward mounting process. The camera includes a mounting bracket that can be attached to walls or ceilings using the provided screws and anchors. Once mounted, users can adjust the camera’s angle to achieve the desired coverage. The camera’s compact size and flexible mounting options make it suitable for a variety of installation locations.
Setup Process
Setting up the DCS-8000LH involves connecting the camera to a Wi-Fi network using the mydlink app. The app provides a step-by-step setup process, guiding users through connecting the camera to their network and configuring initial settings. The setup process is generally user-friendly, though users with limited technical experience may need to refer to the included instructions for assistance.
App Configuration
Once the camera is connected to the network, users can configure various settings through the mydlink app. The app allows users to adjust motion detection sensitivity, set up notification preferences, and manage recording options. The intuitive interface makes it easy to customize the camera’s functionality according to individual needs.
