NVIDIA has always held the leading position in the world of graphics cards by continuously launching high-end and top-class models with power that is hard to find in any other product.
That puts the AMD “red team” in a difficult position, forcing the company to promote the mid-range – high-end graphics card segment in the last few generations, including the AMD RX 480 or AMD RX versions. 5700 XT “dominates” the market and more advanced versions like AMD Radeon VII appear extremely drippy, even … dead before reaching domestic customers.
But in this generation, things have changed somewhat. After NVIDIA launched the high-end GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards, the red team’s sharp “counterattack” with a series of high-end Radeon RX 6000 Series, causing NVIDIA to launch the mid-range version of the NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti graphics card before the “red team.”
One of Taiwan’s leading component manufacturers, Gigabyte, has promptly brought its representative product to the market with five versions. Biareview had the opportunity to “on-hand” the version of the line Gaming OC product that many gamers are most familiar with is the Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G.
In the past many years, Gigabyte has been a bit “conservative” when keeping the design of its Gaming OC graphics card product line from the beginning of the “era” of the GTX 1000 Series. The company only changed the design language with AORUS graphics card models with a completely new design with Alternate Spinning fans in mid-2019.
Among a dozen Gaming OC series graphics cards with identical designs from year to year, the same NVIDIA and AMD cards make the writer… completely lazy about the “unboxing” of the products. Fortunately, coming to this Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G product model, the company has changed its design language, bringing a little excitement during the unboxing process before coming to the detailed review.
However, the box’s design has very little changed compared to previous versions of Gaming OC series graphics cards, mainly in the logo of the eye of the god AORUS that has been redesigned by Gigabyte with high detail.
The small difference only comes from the back of the box with the introduction of some innovative technologies in design, the most notable of which is the cooling technology with Alternate Spinning fans and “cooling windows.” Screen Door Cooling has been applied to the Gaming OC product line this time.
Proceed to “unbox” the product, it is easy to see, despite the change in the design language, but the Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G still has a lot of “looks” of the previous Gaming OC product line with three familiar Blade fans.
In addition, the design with diagonal bevels makes this graphics card somewhat similar to the Eagle series design that appeared on the Gigabyte RTX 3080 Eagle Gaming OC 10G version.
The biggest difference of the new design compared to previous Gaming OC versions is that the three large cooling fans will rotate in the opposite direction in a method that Gigabyte calls Alternate Spinning to push the airflow to the sides without being damaged cross disturbance.
This design was previously only available for high-end AORUS graphics cards from 2019.
The “back armor” has had a lot of changes with gentle and strong cuts, and the Gigabyte and GeForce RTX logos are printed extremely sharp, different from the monotonous “black” look on the Gaming OC versions old.
Most notably, the Gaming OC version has also “followed” NVIDIA’s Founder Edition version when cutting and opening a small “window” on this “back armor” that allows the graphics card model to squeeze out the hot air behind. Increasing heat dissipation efficiency when you no longer have to be “concern” about CPU heat dissipation because AIO water coolers are getting cheaper and more popular.
This design also requires Gigabyte to shorten the Gigabyte PCB board of the Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G, bringing the 8-pin power supply port closer to the middle of, and “push” the decorative LED area commonly seen in the card. It is worth noting that the USB-C VirtualLink port on GeForce RTX 2000 Series graphics cards has been removed for unknown reasons. One of the convenient connections for new design monitors or VR headsets connects to computers more easily through just one connection cable.
Meanwhile, the AMD RX 6800 graphics card version continues to keep this extremely convenient connection port.
Overall, the Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G has a moderate size, taking up only 2.5 PCIe slots as usual, not “massive” occupying three slots like high-end graphics cards, even in high-end graphics cards. The volume is still quite light when compared to the somewhat large “shape” of the product.
That is because Gigabyte equips its mid-range graphics card with a streamlined WindForce 3 heatsink with fewer copper pipes than the high-end versions of the graphics card.
In general, Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC 8G has been slightly refreshed by Gigabyte’s design team with new highlights, helping users familiar with the Gaming OC product line not to be boring when looking at too many of these designs since 2016.
