amazon iBasso IT07 reviews
After more than a year since the launch of the IEMs flagship IT04 headset, finally, the next flagship of the iBasso family was also released – iBasso IT07. With a price almost double that of its predecessor, the IT07 has set the first milestone in iBasso’s history when entering the world of Hi-end headphones. Through this detailed review, we will find out whether this product can mark a resounding success like what iBasso IT04 can do.
DESIGN AND FINISHING
As for the box, iBasso IT07 is the headset with the company’s most invested box design ever. Not only bringing a pair of headphones but also gives us an extremely interesting unboxing experience. As soon as we open the box, we will see a metal container and another piece of metal with filters attached. We will find our main character opening the metal box but wait, where are the other accessories?
At this point, pay attention to the top cover of the container. You will spot a black paper box. In this mysterious black box, you will find the missing accessories such as ear tips, manuals.
iBasso IT07 retains the form of its predecessor IT04. It’s lightweight, crafted from hand-polished resin for extremely good fit and comfort.
The main color of iBasso IT07 is deep blue, inspired by the deep ocean. On the faceplate still the words InTune and the same beautiful 3D textures.
The head of the sound pipe on the iBasso IT07 is made of metal and can remove filters to produce different sound qualities. This method is very similar to what AKG used to do on its flagship model, N5005.
The included conductor of iBasso IT07 is very well finished and luxurious. Using Litz silver-plated copper with a transparent cover to reveal beautiful iridescent colors. All jacks and splitters on the wire are covered with shiny metal.
iBasso IT07 is still loyal to the MMCX connector. The default conductor uses the Balanced 2.5mm plug standard, and iBasso has also generously included a single 3.5mm output cable on many different devices.
Regarding the internal hardware, iBasso IT07 is equipped with up to 7 drivers per ear. There are 2 Knowles 30017 drivers for the treble range, 2 Knowless 31785 drivers for the high-mid range, and 2 Knowles 30989 drivers for the mid-range. The bass range is handled by a Dynamic diaphragm driver developed by iBasso. A high-end 4-way crossover circuit coordinates the drivers for accurate, realistic sound reproduction.
WEARING EXPERIENCE
Thanks to inheriting the optimal housing design from IT04, iBasso IT07 for fit and comfort is not too much inferior to Custom headphones. However, for those with small ears, you should consider it carefully or try it on before you own it because the housing of iBasso IT07 is larger than average. Thanks to the good fit, the iBasso IT07 has impressive sound insulation. When using advanced ear tips like Azla XELASTEC, there is very little noise that can get inside the ear when worn. That makes the background sound quieter and cleaner.
SOUND QUALITY
As mentioned above, iBasso IT07 can change the sound quality according to the installed filter. Three types of filters come with Bass boost, treble boost, and balance.
With a balanced filter (silver color), The sound quality of iBasso IT07 goes in a balanced, natural, and clear direction. The iBasso IT07’s detail reproduction is a big step up compared to the previous IT04, which was a bit thick and warm.
The black mesh gives darker tones with the remaining two filters, and the yellow mesh provides lighter tones. For those who love bass, like gentle treble bands, the black filter is a lifesaver. It significantly reduces jingles in the highs that pull the stage further out. Change to the yellow filter, the sound becomes sharper. For those who like crunchiness, the golden filter is a better choice.
Bass range:
Reproduced by dynamic drivers using graphene membranes, the bass of iBasso IT07 is full and solid. Its amount is not too much, but it is very compact and decisive. Sub-bass has good vibration but is still precisely controlled.
The bass strip is embossed with blocks and layers. That is a quality bass range and will satisfy nearly all genres of music.
Mid-range:
Extremely clear and not as colorful as IT04. This mid-range feels more flying and airy. iBasso IT07 reveals every detail in the music, even the errors in the recording will be exposed. Vocals have a moderate thickness, sound very natural and balanced. Instruments are separated vividly and in detail.
Treble strip :
The very good high treble range will probably make a good point on iBasso IT07. It’s well-controlled, with no distortion even at super-high notes. That improves detail and cleanliness in the overall performance. There is a lot of space created by this high strip. The crisp sound helps us to listen for a long time without tiring the ears.
Stage space:
Medium width with accurate position reproduction and clear tonal clarity. The position of singers and instruments is separated and arranged on the stage, especially with carefully invested recordings.
COMPARE
CAMPFIRE ANDROMEDA
The bass on the Andromeda hit tighter and faster, while the iBasso IT07 felt more natural and linear. The sub-bass on iBasso IT07 is a plus when using dynamic drivers; it goes deep and has significantly more weight when compared to Andromeda. IBasso IT07 gives better performances in terms of timbre, naturalness, and reproduced details in the mid and treble ranges.
Regarding stage space and sound, iBasso IT07 proved weaker. Andromeda offers more space in the highs and sharper images. If comparing price and performance, perhaps iBasso IT07 will be the winner with the experience it brings.
EPILOGUE
iBasso IT07 is iBasso’s first headset to stand in the ranks of Hi-end in the world of IEMs. It is strongly impressed by its good finishing, a natural substance, and characteristic clarity. That is one of the highest performing headphones in the price range of $900 that you can find today.
