Hybrid may have previously been a technology “saved” by manufacturers for their most advanced products. It is very expensive to make pairs of headphones with both Dynamic and BA membranes and let them sound good fine-tuning money and time. In recent times, this technology has been brought down to lower price ranges so that everyone can experience it.

It is even applied to pairs of True Wireless headphones; we can mention Noble Falcon Pro – the new flagship TWS pair of the American audio company. Lypertek has also successfully developed a TWS Hybrid of its own, and that is the Pureplay Z7 pair that we will learn about today.

Located in a much lower price range, can the Pureplay Z7 match the “big guys” like Falcon Pro or a pair of TWS that is also very hot on the market, Sennheiser Momentum 2?

The packaging of the Z7 is not too colorful, no different from the Pureplay Z3 pair that we learned the other day.

The difference lies in the accessories in the box. We have three rubber pads and three sets of sponges that the company calls Flexifit, a charging cord, and three pairs of replacement filters for those who lose the one already installed on the ear. The Z7’s rubber pads are also a bit higher quality; they are made thinner and softer when the Z3 has a slightly stiff cushion, which can be annoying for those with sensitive ear canals.

That is the box of the Pureplay Z7, still made in the same duffel cover as the Z3 and the Sennheiser Momentum TWS 1 and 2 pairs. A small but nice feature of the Z3 box is the fabric cord to tie the bag has been removed on Z7.

Using a design for the charging case, the Z7 and Z3 also have a lot in common in the headset’s design. Both pairs of headphones are black, decorated with the company’s logo inside a metal ring to help keep the look from becoming too simple.

But the difference lies inside when the Z7’s sound tube is more diagonal than the Z3. That is an upgrade because the human ear canal is shaped more like the Z7 pair, thereby creating a solid wearing feeling, enhancing the soundproofing quality.

The new design combined with the softened ear cushions means that the Z7, in practice, is somewhat more comfortable than the Z3, although the headset’s body has had to be thicker (and certainly a bit heavier). It takes space for more diaphragms inside.

The Z7 is a couple of times worse than the Z3 in terms of water resistance, reduced from IPX7 to IPX5. The more complex internal structure may have made the Z7 not have rubber gaskets to prevent water from entering. With Noble, the same thing happens when the Falcon Pro pair is only IPX5 waterproof compared to the IPX7 of Falcon 1 and 2.

The commendable point of Lypertek: although it has not appeared on the market for a long time, it has also developed support software on smartphones. We only see slight differences when looking at the design and features compared to the “junior” Z3. What users spend more than twice as much money to buy Z7 is the sound quality, which is taken care of by three drivers, of which one is Dynamic for the bass range, and two is for the high range.

Thought that equipped with more diaphragms would make the sound quality of the Z7 even more outstanding than the Z3 – a pair of headphones that also had a thick, dynamic sound quality. But like the change of Noble Falcon 1, 2 to Falcon Pro, the Pureplay Z7 has a “quiet” sound, more uniform than its juniors. The bass still has more volume than average but has been played a bit more restrained than the Z3. I will still have to score Momentum 2 higher when creating a thick soundstage in many directions, feeling fuller than the Z7. In contrast, the Z7 has a strong treble sound because the treble from Sennheiser’s headphones is cut off early, unable to reach high notes like the Z7. The difference in sound quality with the Z7’s Momentum 2 is not as large as the amount between these two pairs of headphones, partly because the Momentum 2 also has active noise cancellation.

Big companies should worry about it gradually!

So far, China and Hong Kong are famous for their wireless headsets at low prices, “around” $90 with quality ranging from good enough to quite good, while the high-end segment is ceded to the best brands in Europe and America. But Pureplay Z7 is a clear affirmation that their potential is much more than that!

Although it has a lower price (from 30% to half) than the flagship TWS of major brands, the Z7 brings all the latest technology along with the sound quality that has been chased very closely.
