DESIGN AND FINISHING
I believe that if you are a beauty lover then you will love Moondrop Starfield as well. Moondrop Starfield’s housing is made from solid aluminum-magnesium alloy. The headset is coated with special paint. When illuminated under the lights, it feels like there are millions of stars glittering in the night sky. The housing faceplate on the left is imprinted with a large glowing star and the right housing is in gold Starfield text.
The housing shape of Starfield is almost identical to the company’s extremely successful KXXS model. The design is very neat according to the shape of the wearer’s ear cavity combined with the relatively long and sloping side pipe. This will give a comfortable wearing feeling and very good grip.
Finishing details at the contiguous part of the 2 housing sections are very tight. The housing surface is smooth and has no sharp edges. The soundholes or the parts adjacent to the connector are painted extremely tight and do not reveal any small imperfections.
One more good thing about Moondrop Starfield is that this headset uses a 2-pin 0.78mm connector. You can easily replace and upgrade the wiring with third-party wiring models such as Satin Audio or Effect Audio.
Speaking of conductors, this is also a bright spot on the design of Moondrop Starfield: The wire uses OFC 4N Litz silver-plated copper, 4-thread knitting and the outer coat also has the same color as the very beautiful housing. If you bring the cord under the light, you will realize that the wire shell is transparent and shows the silver layer. It is clear that Moondrop has invested a lot in the appearance of this headset.
As for the internal configuration, Moondrop Starfield is equipped with a unique dynamic driver 10mm diameter. This driver uses special membrane technology, made up of millions of microscopic carbon nanotubes to create a thin carbon network of only 0.006mm but still very durable. Thanks to this technology, Moondrop Starfield promises to provide sound reproduction of fine details with ultra-low distortion.
EXPERIENCE AND SOUND
Although made from metal, the feel of Moondrop Starfield is still very comfortable and comfortable thanks to the smart design housing. Moondrop’s included eartips were of good quality but for the best comfort and soundproofing experience, I replaced it with a pair of Spinfit CP100. At this moment, the sensation worn on the ear almost disappeared.
The wiring part of Moondrop Starfield has a soft earhook so it feels light and produces less microphonic sounds. The only thing that I find unsatisfying is that the top of the drain has no edge to hold the eartips. If you use eartips with a diameter equal to or larger than Moondrop Starfield’s exit tube a little, then the possibility of removing headphones, slip eartips is very high.
The Moondrop Starfield has an impedance of 32 Ohm and a sensitivity as high as 122dB/ Vmrs so this is a very easy-to-pull headset. You absolutely do not have to worry about the source is not enough power to mix anymore.
In this article, I conducted the Moondrop Starfield collaboration with Hiby R3 PRO for the sound quality assessment.
Sound quality
The typical sound quality of Moondrop Starfield is colorful, sweet. The sound bands are trimmed to create smooth, soft. Overall sound balance in all 3 sound bands, details are reproduced well. The soundstage is not as wide, but it has an impressive height and depth.
Bass range: Bass has a moderate amount, going down deeply, feeling very analogous, natural. Feeling the texture of the bass notes is not too tight, decay is not too fast and heavy technical but relaxing, pleasant. That doesn’t mean the bass hits slow and loose. In fast-paced tracks like Beth Ditto’s In And Out, the mid-bass section of Moondrop Starfield showed neatness and separation in each drum beat clearly. The bass notes are also very smooth rather than clumping making the overall sound range very relax.
Mid-range: Warm, smooth and very plump. There is a bit of influence on the low-mid section of the bass range, which makes the singer’s voice more seasoned and emotional. The average thickness should show well both male and female voices. At high notes, the female voice sounds very airy but she doesn’t have any sibilant. The position of the vocal is slightly backward from the orchestra but does not lose the overall tone range.
Due to the smooth smoothness of the hand, the technical feeling in the notes has been pushed back and replaced with more music and emotion. However, one thing I don’t really like about this sound range of Moondrop Starfield is the authenticity of the affected instruments, the guitar sound is not really sharp and sharp.
Treble range: up to but not bright and not too sharp but smooth, listening very pleasant and relaxing. I personally do not overestimate details in this negative range of Moondrop Starfield. It is not really clear and clear, although it is still quite airy.
Stage space: Medium width but impressive height and depth in the price range. The music space that covers the entire head is like a full-size headset. The location of the instruments and singers was accurately reproduced. The ability to separate musical instruments and vocals is quite good. There are very few headphones of the same price range that can recreate the yardless space as well as Moondrop Starfield.
CONCLUDE
Obviously, it is no coincidence that the young sound label Moondrop quickly gained the “head-fi” ‘s resonance and affection. Moondrop Starfield is a product that demonstrates a thorough polish from appearance to sound of the company.
