amazon Wyze Bulb reviews
The Wyze Bulb is an affordable white LED light that you can control with your voice, phone, and many other smart home devices.
Best known for its ultra-affordable home security cameras, Wyze enters the smart lighting arena with the aptly named Wyze Bulb, an adjustable white LED light that is one of the most affordable bulbs we’ve come across at $7.99. Despite the lowest price, it offers many features, including built-in Wi-Fi, support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands, adjustable white temperature, scheduling options, and interaction with other smart home devices. It is also easy to install and does not require a hub. All of this makes it our Editors’ Choice for Smart White LED Bulbs.
Design and Features
The Wyze Bulb is a dimmable white LED that outputs 800 lumens, roughly equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb. It’s adjustable, which means you can adjust its white temperature from 2700K (warm) to 6500K (cool), and it’s rated to last up to 20,000 hours. The bulb has a classic A19 shape, uses a standard E26 base, and measures 4.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 inches (HWD). It is designed for indoor use only and has its own embedded 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio. Therefore, it does not require a hub like Philips Hue White.
The same mobile app-controlled bulbs control other Wyze devices, like the Wyze Cam Pan security camera and the Wyze Sense Starter Kit. The home screen contains tabs for all installed Wyze devices with their names and current status (Online, Offline). You can turn the Wyze Bulb on and off with the button on the tab or open it and do other things like adjusting the brightness and color temperature settings with the sliders. You can also create a Scene that will turn on the light bulb using a preset color temperature and brightness level.
Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to edit the name of the bulb, turn on Sleep Mode to randomly turn the bulb on and off to make the bulb look like someone is at home, edit or delete Scenes and create Rules to have bulbs interact with other Wyze devices and turn them on and off on a schedule. You can also use IFTTT apps to get the bulb to work with third-party smart devices like cameras and doorbells, and you can turn it on and off with Amazon Alexa and Assistant voice commands. Google. However, Apple HomeKit is not supported.
Settings and Performance
As with other Wyze smart devices, the Wyze Bulb is easy to set up. I already have a Wyze account from previous reviews, but you’ll have to download the mobile app and create an account if this is your first Wyze product.
I screwed the light bulb into the light socket, turned on the light, and tapped the three dots in the upper-right corner of the app’s home screen. I click on Add Product and select Wyze Bulb from the list. Following the instructions in the app, I put the bulb into pairing mode by turning the fixture on and off three times (power cycle), at which point the bulb started blinking. I hit Next, enter my Wi-Fi password, and connect to the bulb’s SSID using my phone’s Wi-Fi settings. After about 30 seconds, I was prompted to name the bulb, and the setup was complete.
The Wyze Bulb provides a soft, warm yellow light when set to the lowest temperature and a much sharper cold blue light when set to the highest temperature, and it responds quickly to app and voice commands by Alexa. I have created a Rule so that the bulb turns on when the motion sensor or Wyze contact sensor is activated, and it works perfectly. I also created an IFTTT app that turns on the light bulb when the Arlo Pro 3 camera detects motion, and it always works. The footage worked without a hitch, as did my on/off schedule.
Conclusion
At $7.99, the Wyze Bulb is one of the more affordable white LEDs we’ve tested. It’s also one of the most feature-packed, offering voice control, interoperability with other smart devices, scheduling, one-touch scene options, and Wi-Fi integration. Moreover, it is simple to install, works well in testing, and does not require a hub.
