Unboxing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10
As with their other phones, Xiaomi has given the Redmi Note 10 a rectangular shape retail box, carrying the basic white color as the prime color. Inside are much familiar accessories: the user manual, the SIM stick, charger, USB-C cable, and a transparent case.
Design and Finish
The Redmi Note 10 resembles its much pricier sibling in that it is certified for an IP53 rating for water and dust resistance. On the contrary, do not expect it to withstand submersion in water since this standard only marks for light water resistance.
Unlike the “Pro,” the Redmi Note 10 uses Gorilla Glass 3 for front protection instead of the more advanced Gorilla Glass 5, while the back is plain plastic. The smartphone won’t look as premium, but it does feel pretty good, weighing only 178 grams with its slim 8.3mm body owing mostly to that near-whole plastic build. The rear of the Redmi Note 10 tends to get rather greasy with fingerprints, so regular cleaning is advisable if you wish for it to be in flawless condition.
The overall look of the Redmi Note 10 seems to be akin to most other midrange devices into the market today. It includes a punch-hole that seems to be in the center of the upper border for the selfie camera; a not very slim “chin” on the bottom is thick, while the rectangular camera cluster on the back is big enough to protrude quite a bit out of the back to prevent any scratches on the lenses.
Right side where the up/down volume button has a finger scanner located below.
The left side houses the tray for the SIM.
The bottom edge is almost for external stereo speakers, a USB-C charging port, microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Top of the device is almost home to a secondary speaker, infrared port, and second microphone.
Display
Not a world-class 120Hz display like the one on the “Pro”, but good enough for the most fussy user-the Redmi Note 10 is equipped with a respectable 60Hz Super AMOLED. 6.43 inches wide and Full-HD + resolution allows the screen to present quite a sharp image. The display is allegedly made for the DCI-P3 color gamut and rated at 1,100 nits peak brightness.
Tests, however, instead show that the maximum displays brightness level of the Redmi Note 10 screen is 682 nits, whereas 475 nits maximum brightness can be manually incurred. So, it may be that that promised 1,100 nits brightness could be achieved for small patches of the screen; nonetheless, that is virtually useless in daily usage.
Battery Life
In terms of battery life, it appears that the Redmi Note 10 has suffered and may be behind the earlier version considering the very low browsing and standby scores. The batteries are almost identical too: 5,020 mAh for the Redmi Note 9 and 5,000 mAh for the Redmi Note 10. However, quite impressively, with an overall score of 110h, this comfortably meets the all-day power needs for the average user.
Furthermore, Xiaomi claims that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 is one of the quickest charging phones in its class, and the reviews prove it. In real-world-use cases, this phone charges exactly as Xiaomi states — 30 minutes for a 65% charge and complete charging to a full 100% in 73 minutes.
So for the mid-range phones mentioned below, the charging is fastest by Redmi Note 10.
Performance
The Redmi Note 10 is one of the first phones to utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 678. The chip is supported by 4GB/6GB RAM, with 128GB of internal memory that can be further extended via microSD card.
As expected, the new chip inside the Redmi Note 10 performs a little better than its predecessor-the Snapdragon 675. It is possible that the Snapdragon 678 could score higher in the specialized benchmarks due to its newer operating system and GPU depth vocation in this regard. But Xiaomi has averaged slightly lesser performance compared to the chipsets in other competitive offerings.
Indeed, in some tests, the Redmi Note 10 actually ended up scoring less than its predecessor, which was on the MediaTek Helio G85. Also, the Galaxy A32 seems to have outperformed the Redmi in some tests with the Helio G80.
Camera
Like most mid-range phones, the Redmi Note 10, too, features a quad rear camera arrangement: a 48MP main sensor with f/1.8, an 8MP sensor with an f/2.2-wide lens for super-wide-angle views, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor for portraits. The front has a standard 13MP selfie camera for ‘selfies’ and video calls.
Experience shows that the main camera of Redmi Note 10 captures pictures with good detail and sharpness in bright enough conditions. It possesses a fairly large dynamic range in contrast, so the details in dark parts and brighter areas are quite well upheld.
About color reproduction, pictures from the Redmi Note 10 camera are true to color. Hence, in case you prefer a more vivid version, you could certainly give AI a try, as this feature is generally turned off. AI helps recognize some objects in the landscape, intensifying colors and adding a tad bit of sharpness, albeit this also causes noise to creep in.
Usually, the 48MP camera mode doesn’t make much difference. Therefore, it’s better to shoot in the 12MP mode so that no internal space is consumed. The Redmi Note 10 doesn’t have a zoom camera equipped, but the software within it allows switching to a rapid enhancement-two times while using its normal lens of 1x. However, it is fire resistant enough since the ability of details captured wasn’t quite much; the image quality would get quite noisy after taking photos in dark surrounding lights.
Again, the super wide-angle camera of the Redmi Note 10 is also quite moderate because it resolves only 8MP-likewise-the image details are considerably less than the main sensor. Its dynamic range is also less, but then disturbance becomes less because the edges are treated very well through pretty good software algorithms making the Redmi Note 10 photos end up looking quite striking in comparison with other competitors under similar segments.
Now for the selfie camera, you can guarantee that every single time you take a photo with this camera, you will be getting perfect “selfie” images because, under any condition, faces are always smooth but with pretty good detail retention. The portrait mode of the selfie captures also works to give users the best quality photographs.
Conclusion
Generally speaking, Redmi Note 10 still really makes a bold statement in the lineup of Redmi Note series products from Xioami because it has got potentially more powerful configuration at its cost. The unique feature, however, was the quite improved design of the mobile. Fair battery along with a strong configuration, stable performance, and camera within price range supplemented it.
