amazon SpO2 meter reviews
SpO2 (blood oxygen concentration) meters are being sought after by many people because they are advertised to detect early when COVID-19 patients show signs of worsening. I am curious and want to buy it for the whole family to try it out because the epidemic situation is very complicated; it is better to be careful.
How to use the device like other expensive meters, clip it to your finger, and then use the sensors inside to measure the heart rate and SpO2 index. This number will show how much oxygen is in the blood. Normally, a healthy person will have this index as high as 95% or higher; the lower is that the body may be lacking oxygen – an important sign to detect severe cases of COVID-19.
That’s the theory, but does this machine work as advertised? I tried measuring with a device with a smart band with a built-in heart rate sensor and SpO2 costing $90. As a result, both indicators are quite similar, only about 2-3 units apart.
The machine returns fast results with the orange SpO2 reading above, the green heart rate below, updating the index continuously according to each change, not just measuring once and then stopping.
Comparing the heart rate and SpO2 results with a smartwatch priced at $90 also gives almost identical numbers, only a difference of 2-3 units.
To test whether the SpO2 meter was real or an “error,” I tried to hold my breath for about 1 minute. After 30 seconds, when I started to feel dizzy because of a lack of oxygen to the brain, the measurement on the device also dropped to 92 – 93 %, screen flickers, indicating that this is a dangerous level to watch out.
Holding your breath for about 30 seconds, the oxygen level in the blood drops to a dangerous level (below 93%), so it blinks to notify.
It’s true, but in fact, finger-pin SpO2 meters at home should only be for reference, absolutely not “Diagnostic” with 100% accuracy.
If you do not have access to the medical system, you should have a blood oxygen meter in your home. Measuring your blood oxygen level with a SpO2 meter will let you know if you’re having trouble breathing due to a real lack of oxygen or just excessive anxiety. Excessive anxiety leading to shortness of breath is common in many F0 cases isolated at home. Therefore, I recommend that those with conditions and high risk buy and know how to measure SpO2 at home.
